Eating their lunch from the steps of their next project, demolition workers Selby Staples and Rivet Foreston see people going about their business in the 19th century, then crossing an invisible line and reappearing in the 21st century. They don't know it yet, but they are witnessing a very dangerous time warp. Demolition of Matherby Hall must stop. Only Selby and Rivet will stand between time passing normally forward, or reverting backward to chaos.

"To the 19th Century" is a short fantasy-lite adventure by author James W. Nelson. This Kindle e-book was a 179 Kb download (approx. 26 printed pages) and was on sale (free) at the time I obtained my copy.Spoilers
Two demolition workers (Selby Staples and Rivet Foreston) are scheduled to bring down an old building by the name of Matherby Hall. It's at this point when a Mr. Addleman appears and indicates to them that this is a place of old magic... its destruction could unravel time and change events that have happened in the past, resulting in a chaotic domino effect for anything in the future. It's up to Selby and Rivet to save us all.

Some thoughts on "On the 19th Century"...
1,) an interesting story that held some promise... there was some suspense and intrigue as the end approached.
2.) some annoying repetition of a couple phrases... e.g. 'little buddy' and a grunting 'RRRRRRRRRRRHRH' when Rivet was straining to do work.
3.) an interesting cover... mysterious and has a 3D look to it.
4.) after the main 'quest' was finished, the last four paragraphs of the story switch to a man across the street who waves a magic wand and disappears. I have not a clue who this was or what this was all about... there appeared to be no reference anywhere in the book about this person. Is it an indication that there is more to come in follow-up books?
Conclusion:
A short fantasy-lite adventure requiring our heroes to save the day.
This short story was interesting to a point and generally well done. But the ending stumped me completely.
3 Stars.
